Two Perspectives on Concussions

Concussions:

Exploring Visual Solutions Through Objective and Subjective Design
Objective Design: Using a geometric grid to present the common symptoms, condition, and other valuable information about concussions in football. Design goal was to be as objective with the information and the nature of concussions in a light, vibrant manner. I wanted to purposely omit any information about CTE or second hit syndrome--the possibly deadly effects of a concussion--in this iteration of the poster and use bright colors, a formal grid, and cartoons to underplay the seriousness of concussions.
Subjective Design: Using a deconstructive approach, I wanted to completely obliterate the formality behind concussions, CTE, and brain damage and represent how the progression of this condition can take hold of one's emotional state. I wanted the design to be messy and erratic, much like one's behavior during a concussion and echo the confusion about the condition. I play rugby and have had three serious concussions, this piece echoes the fragility and uncertainty I feel about my own mind and the road that may lie ahead for me and millions of others who play contact sports.
